Or something. Anyways, I don't remember how this dream started except it felt like another family road trip. The part I do remember clearly was at night, at someone's house we were staying at. I was in whatever room I'd be assigned to and was looking at some playing cards me and my siblings had made to play with. I think my brother Jamie was in the dream, not just my kid siblings, I remember thinking of him in relation to making/playing with the cards... he might even have been sleeping in the same room. I think we were also children in the dream.

I remember there wasn't much written on the cards, the one I was looking at was a "2" card. In fact, where I thought the number was written, all I remember now is a very small scribble or lettering or something, written in pencil on the upper right side, but not in the corner like you'd expect for a playing card. The cards were all made of a very thin paper. I assume we'd made a whole, standard deck, but I don't know. I don't even remember the card I was looking at having a suit designated (ie: spades). Just a little bit of small writing along the bottom area of the card (also in pencil), which I don't think I could comprehend reading in the dream.

Anyways, I had to go to the bathroom. So I went out of the room and down the hall, the bathroom was on the right. I think the floors and walls were made of wood panels, but it was dark so I'm not sure. There was a night light in the bathroom. I went in and the counter was on the left with one sink and a mirror above it (big square thing, over the whole side of that wall), and the toilet was in front of me, and the bathtub was on the right. It was a really small bathroom. I turned around and started closing the door...

...and then something stopped it from closing all the way. There was maybe a few inches of empty, open, very dark space. I said, "Who's there?" as I was trying to force the door closed (I was sitting on the bathroom counter by now, maybe to help keep my balance). I already felt strangely scared, like I knew it was something evil out there, and the fact that nothing answered my question didn't help at all. I got the door closed and was trying to lock it (with an oldstyle turn lock above the round doorknob) but whoever or whatever it was on the other side opened the door again, but I managed to keep the gap about the same size as before. Still absolutely no sound from the other side, just that total pitch blackness. I got the door shut again and this time succeeded in locking it. But I didn't really trust the lock, and I was starting to realize this was a dream. I held the door shut with my left hand and banged my right hand into the counter, screaming "MOMMMMM!!!!" over and over. I could feel myself waking up in real life, but I don't think I actually said anything.

Then I woke up.

But that's what I did. I was a guy for this entire dream, very athletic and kinda skinny. This was like, the most intense, biggest race you could ever do, and there were only four contestants. I represented Australia, and my main competitor was American. The other two guys injured or collapsed themselves out of the race. I mean, geez, we ran non-stop for a week. Okay, you could stop if you wanted to, but that only put you in risk of losing... I remember we were allowed to change our shoes once (because we'd literally wear them out from all the running) and I had done it early, 3 days into the race instead of 4 like most people did. But I had put on two pairs of socks, and I knew this would probably help me get through the last bit better than waiting longer to change my shoes (maybe they'd had serious issues faster than I'd anticipated). The thought that the extra pair of socks would make me heavier and possibly lose the race was present in my mind but I decided to do it anyways.

The only scenes I remember from the race were during the daytime. I remember at some point, I think on a quick water-drinking break, I took off my running gloves (something my dream invented, as if they'd be needed for a race this long) and someone tried to put a liner in the right one to make it heavier. I discovered it and pulled it out and ran off amused at their attempts to make me lose. Yeah, obviously weight was a big thing in this race for some reason. Even the weight of a little bit of fabric.

And the other weird thing about this race was that you had to keep track of where you were supposed to run on your own a lot of the time. If you got off the track, you risked not being able to find it again. Sometimes the other runners would take shortcuts (you were allowed to do that if you wanted to risk losing the trail), and the American guy did this towards the end of the race, managing to get ahead of me for a moment. Then we reached a stretch of mowed lawn, and the track was designated by taller grass that hadn't been mowed as far down as the rest, but was still close to the same hight. It was very hard to see the trail, and this is when I decided it was shortcut time. I followed where the twisting, bizarre grass track was going with my eyes, and cut across the rest of the grass to a fence which was open, and I could tell the track went on through there. That led into the homestretch at a stadium, but it wasn't a big, olympic type stadium, it had sort of a converted horse racetrack feel to it. It was also dry and dusty.

I was afraid I might lose the race at this point because the American was so close behind me and I was running out of energy bad. But I put everything into the last stretch, and ran my heart out... and won. I remember just past the finish line all I could do was fall into the arms of my trainer and a friend (both guys) as they congratulated me and cheered. The American came up and offered me membership in his exclusive running club (at least, I think it was a club for runners, but I'm not really sure anymore just what it was for, it was a big honor though) and he wasn't mad at me for winning either, he was impressed. He gave me a bracelet with big gold and black charms on it, that signified my being part of the club he was in. I think the symbols were either stars/plus signs in circles or ships' stearing wheels... or maybe a combination of all those.

Then I woke up.

This is not a dream post. This is just a note on some things related to my dream posts. I will be adding it to Memories so it is easy to find, and in theory, this will be the only post there. I'll edit this post if I think of more stuff. I really don't want to post anything but dreams on this journal, so in theory this will be the only maintenance/explanatory type post. In theory. And I've said that three times now.

last updated: December 19, 2008

1. I've lost interest in posting a dream symbol analysis for most dreams. If I find it important to do so, I will. I've also stopped posting my thoughts about the dream most of the time. This is either because I have no specific thoughts to post, or I'm too tired to care.

2. If I indicate "(rest don't apply)" after a dream symbol entry, it doesn't mean that I think all the interpretations listed could apply, it simply means that whatever I cut out really, really, really doesn't apply. And if I've left an interpretation that looks really off, sometimes I find the other interpretations of dream symbols to be so interesting I don't want to leave it out, even if I think it has nothing to do with the dream.

3. With the addition of "tags" to the LiveJournal posting options, I now have all dreams tagged with their major dream symbols. This means if you click a dream symbol in the tag list, my entire dream journal will reload and show only the dreams that share that symbol. Non-dream posts can be found under the admin tag. Note: Sometimes I list more symbols in the tags than I look up for the dream symbol analysis, if I do one at all.

4. My dreams often have built-in pasts or memories of things that I think have happened before while in the dream, but after I wake up I realize those memories weren't real. Sometimes I reference the "built-in past" in a dream without really explaining what I mean. So now you know. To put it another way, it would be like playing a video game or watching a movie starring a character who has a past that is different from your own, and while you are interacting with or watching the character, you have those person's memories in your head as if they are yours.

5. My sources for dream-related sites at this time are SoulFuture Dream Dictionary and Dream Moods Dream Dictionary. I don't like the second one because of popups, so I rarely use it.

Random observations:

~ I come across the dream symbol for the 7th Chakra a lot, specifically the color white. In fact as of the 19th of December, 2008, just under half of the dreams I have posted here have the color white in them. Back in summer of 2005, it was one-quarter of the dreams... so it would appear that color reference is increasing in frequency. Perhaps I simply notice it more than other colors because white is a very easy color to remember. The symbol interpretation is: violet, top of head, thought, spiritual connection, understanding, knowing, bliss, God. As to that last interpretation, I do not believe in the typical "God" concept... hail Eris. xP I live in my head a lot, via daydreams and fantasies, so that could be one reason I see the symbol in my dreams so often. Another thought is that either my mind is flailing and trying to get some grasp of truth in a world that makes no sense... and failing... or that I'm further ahead on finding that truth than I think I am, at least in being able to come to terms with some things about myself and other people. Heh, a dream symbol with two of the possible interpretations being complete opposites.
