tirsdendreams: (redefinition of me)
This was last week so I only remember bits of it. I was some kind of female special forces member, and there were some small islands close to shore interconnected by wooden rope bridges. There might have been some larger complex further out, but the point I remember now was trying to get across the bridges with an injured teammate.

Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman from Die Hard) was on the shore, and there was a large concrete wall blocking off some of his view. But the second-to-last bridge I needed to cross, he could see just fine. I knew Hans had a rocket launcher, I vaguely remember somebody else getting blown to smithereens trying to cross the bridge ahead of me (nevermind that the bridge was still okay). Hans kept yelling taunts at me and daring me while at the same time telling me things were hopeless.

I knew just sitting there wasn't gonna help either, so I ran as fast as I could, and the bridge curved downwards and then back upwards so steeply that I was able to toss my buddy up onto the island and hide behind the edge of it while still on the bridge. The expected rocket did launch, but I just barely made it and I think it just went by and hit elsewhere. Not sure, because I was moving again since I was still alive.

The last bridge had some protection from the wall, and I think I must have left injured-guy somewhere along there where he'd be safer while I tried to take Hans out. Carefully sneaking past the wall I found myself in a junkyard, and the bad guys were no longer visible. I was afraid they were trying to ambush me, but as I snuck around rusty cars and piles of junk, Hans suddenly walked out in to the middle of a more open area and didn't seem to have any weapons on him at all.

I had my own handgun pointed at him but he just sort of half put his hands up and said they'd decided they were on the wrong side and I didn't have to worry about them anymore. Yeah, seriously, they were honestly sorry, and wanted to make things right. I was thinking I should go back and get my buddy...

Then I woke up.

I was a random male hero-type character in a setting similar to Pirates of the Caribbean. There was a battle against undead pirates and we won. The second time was coming up and we knew it, so I was trying to set up all the people who could help in the battle. The first battle had been at sea (which I don't remember enough of to make sense of, like any of the rest makes sense lol). For some reason we were now setting up on land inside what would have been a theater with a stage except where the stage would have been there was a thick curtain and beyond that was a narrow beach and the ocean. The curtain was open at the beginning of setup but we closed it so the enemy couldn't see us setting up. It had been daylight during the initial battle but the sun was now setting... we feared the enemy would be much stronger at night and would surely attack again soon.

There were three areas of the theater seats and they were separated by walls. I was trying to go back and forth between the areas to better organize the upcoming battle. It seemed that someone else was spreading misinformation and screwing up my plans and people weren't where they were supposed to be. Yeah, someone was definitely undermining me. There were two people in charge of two of the areas and I was in charge of the left-most section (when facing the curtain). I had a lot of trouble finding the other two people. I gave up on the other two sections because things were so bad and I knew an attack was imminent. We were on an island... it's not like the people had anywhere to run, yet they seemed vaguely disinterested in fighting, even though the pirates were interested only in killing everyone and there was no chance of them taking prisoners.

I went back to my section to find it in complete disarray. Some people were leaving and it was obvious whoever was spreading bad info had been here as well. It almost seemed like I'd have to fight most of this battle myself as everyone else looked clueless or scared enough to run for it whenever the undead pirates finally showed up. I saw a man in the crowd who looked like a cross between Will Turner and Westley from The Princess Bride. He was closer to the back of the seats and with a woman who I guessed must be his wife.

I felt bad about splitting them up, like they were there together so that they wouldn't be split up and he could protect her, but I knew this guy looked like a real fighter. He was exactly what I needed to get the edge on this battle. I told him to come with me and told his wife to stay in the back and away from the fighting. She didn't look too confident in this idea but the guy followed me and we went towards the curtain. I said to him, "Stay near me."

I hadn't planned on going past the curtain, I was going to make one last attempt to regain order among the other people but the dude with me said he had a hunch and felt it very imporant we go beyond the curtain. He took me past the curtain and there was nothing around, just moonlight water and sand. It was much calmer out here than back with all those people. It was also obvious that there weren't any bad guys around yet, but there was a dark, sinister feeling in the air and I knew whatever it was we were supposed to be discovering had better happen quickly.

Then I woke up.

I've forgotten a lot of this dream, as quite a bit of it didn't make sense. But there was a remote, tropical island and I was part of a group of stranded people trying to keep alive and not get killed by "the Others" (just like in the TV show Lost). I remember at one point getting hypnotized by some flowers on a tree nobody else could see (I'd breathed in some kind of gas they hadn't gotten a whiff of), and running off to a place where the Others had control of a big, fortified building. I was going to go in there because the madness in my mind made me think I had to. John Locke was trying to stop me but I went up a lot of steep, sandy slopes and the trees and plants I used to pull myself up would always pull out of the ground as soon as I was done using them, so Locke couldn't keep up.

Later on there was some weird goings on to do with guns, and I had one at one point but then ran out of ammunition, but didn't want the Others to realize this and was hoping I could find some more before they figured it out. There was also some Sims skill-building weirdness going on (like I said, half the dream made no sense but there was a definite air of suspense and fear throughout the dream). In the end, though, I remembered that another character in the dream plot had swum out west and found another island with nobody on it, a safe place the Others didn't know existed. (I think I was that other character somewhere back in the dream, that's how I knew). So I rounded up the one other person I could find who was still alive and said we had to swim west. The nice thing was, the sun was setting in about an hour so it was very obvious which way to go. Follow the sun!

As I was swimming off, though, my (real) kid sister runs up to the beach and starts crying because she can't swim (not true, but in reality I don't think she woulda been able to make it to the island anyways). She has some teenager friends around her too with similar problems; some of them can swim, but not very well. There's a moment where I wonder if it's too late, because it seems like I knew the Others would be showing up any moment, but then I decided I couldn't leave her behind and swam back to shore. I told my sister to hang onto me, and her friends to hang onto her, and I'd swim and we'd all make it together if some of the others could do some kicking too. This was working fairly well, but we had only gone a few yards before I saw one of the Others.

This person was more like an ape-human hybrid creature, and this one was female. At that moment that's what all the Others had been like the whole dream (but they hadn't really been, they were humans up to that point... silly dream physics). I was afraid because the Other had an inflated inner tube and was getting into it to follow us. But she called after us and said she wanted to join us, that she didn't want to be with the Others anymore. I told her she had to promise not to flip out and kill us later on, and I had to be convinced she was being truthful, and she did promise and I believed her. So we added the inner tube to our floating people raft and kept swimming. The inner tube helped a ton.

We saw the safe island coming up through some haze, but then there was the thought that swimming past that would bring us to New York City. And we hadn't even gotten to the island yet when suddenly out of the haze (to the left of the island) comes a very New-York looking skyline, with tons of skyscrapers crammed in and going straight down to the waterline. More and more of this city appears and we stear towards it, confused but not gonna let this chance go to get back to civilization. As we get closer we notice that the buildings are put together oddly, like they've been stacked up all funny on top of each other and not like you'd expect any sane builder to do.

A wave carried us into a hallway of the closest building, it turned out to be an indoor shopping mall. Then the place we'd come from, with all the water, melted away into more of the mall, disappearing like it'd never been there. The architecture seemed to normalize as well, and there we were sitting on the floor with the inner tube, people walking by us ignoring us.

We walked into the closest shop, seeking answers to this weirdness, and it was a Meet Santa shop sorta thing. Santa Claus was sitting behind a desk and for some reason I knew this guy was probably actually the real Santa Claus, not just some guy dressed up in a suit like anybody else would think. This section of the dream feels very Narnia-like, specifically the end of The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe where the kids ask the Professor if he thinks they've been on a real adventure. And that's more or less what I asked Santa, was if we'd been on a real adventure. He seemed to be indicating that he believed it was real, but now that I think about it, he never gave a straight answer.

Then I woke up.

The earliest part of this dream had me stuck on an island somewhere with one or two other people. There was a large fort that had to do with the dream plot I can't remember anymore. But at the end part of this dream the other people seemed to think we'd get rescued, yet I knew the odds of that weren't good. In fact I seemed to know we might be there indefinitely.

I found some blackberry bushes and blueberry trees and started planting berries in paper cups of dirt. My idea was to start a sort of mini-farm out of this stuff. (Mind you, blueberry bushes aren't the easiest things to nurture and take years before they will produce berries... and to my knowledge they don't become trees... but it made sense in the dream). Then it seemed like the other people had found a raft, so we all got on it and went out in the water. But I ended up by myself in the water for some reason. The current was very strong, and I thought it might take me to another island or the mainland. I saw some land coming up that didn't look familiar, but as soon as I was on it I realized it was the same island.

The next bit is unclear, but the dream changed to me going to visit a halfling (hobbit) friend in a series of underground caves where other halflings lived. But she wasn't there, and it looked like the place had been trashed. I realized she'd been kidnapped, and wondered if there was some message she'd left behind that would help me know where she'd been taken. I found her sewing basket and started taking it apart. I figure if she'd had the time, she would have had to hide the message very well so that her captors didn't destroy it. After taking apart a lot of the sewing basket components down to the box inside all the fabric and foam, I put it down to see if there were clues anywhere else.

Then her phone rang (yeah, a halfling with a phone, and a video phone no less). It was her! But it looked like she was being held somewhere and this call was a sort of asking-for-ransom-money deal or something. She couldn't directly tell me where the clue was that I was sure she'd left, because the bad guys would surely hurt her and cut her off before she could finish telling me, but what she did say was, "You are an artist, after all." The phone call ended, and I don't really remember what else had been said. I was thinking about the artist thing, and wondering if she meant the sewing basket (or well, what was left of it) was really where she'd hidden the clue. Part of the inside box had a simple painting on it. Had she had time to hide something under the paint? It was dry and looked like it belonged on the box.

Either I've forgotten what happened next or the dream changed again. Now I was talking to Mom about going on a trip. It was one that my brother Jamie was supposed to be going on too and meeting us at the destination and I told her I didn't want to see him so I wasn't going. In the end it turned out he wasn't going to go so I think I went. There was a dinner scene, at the destination of the trip (wherever it was) and I said I had to use the restroom as we were all being seated. For some reason I really I didn't want to sit next to my kid brother Peter and I said something about that as I walked off (the only seat left had been next to him, and Mom said something about switching seats real quick and Peter started whining).

Then I think I decided that I wasn't going back. I found myself in a sort of weird shopping mall, and for some reason I was pretending I had a foot problem. I was limping really badly. A couple of ladies looked at me funny as I was looking for the restroom (this was still on my mind, even though I knew I wouldn't be returning to the family after I found it). I found a stand nobody was watching, and I realized somewhere in my mind that I was dreaming, so I knew if I could get away with it in the dream it would be okay to steal something. The object in question was actually icecream, it was kinda like those little ones you can get in paper cups. I picked it up and held it under my shirt, which was really big and baggy.

Then a black guy showed up who was probably supposed to be watching the stand, and he asked me if I needed anything. I asked him where the restroom was, the entire time nervous that he'd somehow catch me with the icecream (which was very cold). But he told me it was upstairs, and pointed across the lobby/hallway thing that comprised most of the mall. Where he was pointing, there were these odd elevators that went up to the next floor, and there were a bunch of them in a row. They had glass walls so people could see out while the elevators went up and down.

I went over there trying to find an empty elevator, but when I thought I was going into a sort of holding area just before one elevator, it turned out to be something else, maybe machinery that ran the elevators. I knew I wasn't supposed to be in that area, so I went back out. I gave up on the elevators and thought about stairs, then I looked around to see if there were actually any restroom signs anywhere. I did see one... but thinking about it now it didn't make much sense and it had no arrow. I was standing by the sign thinking it meant I should go up some stairs right near me, and then I noticed the mall exit doors.

I decided to go out them, and it was night time outside. For some reason I felt like I should hide, and dropped low to the ground and almost crawled over to this bush by the doors. A car went by and I remember being worried about the light from the headlights. By this time I managed to eat some of the icecream, and then someone who was my friend met me behind the weird bush thing. (I have no clue who the guy was supposed to be now, but in the dream he was a real friend). I might have said something to this person, but then this other guy showed up and started saying who I was. I had no idea who he was but he was dead right on all the stuff he said about me. He looked at my friend and said all kinds of true stuff about my friend too. The stranger said that we'd been destined to go on a quest, an adventure of the greatest proportions, and that he had a contract for us to sign. It seems like the quest would be a fantasy sort of thing in another world.

My friend said he didn't think signing the contract was a good idea. Meanwhile the stranger had handed it to me, and I had intended to sign it (what the hell, eh? I was running away after all and had no real plans, I'd definitely sign up for an adventure since it seemed like I knew this was going to be something like what I've been waiting for my whole life). But as I was looking at the contract, the words and lines to sign and stuff kept changing, moving around somehow (probably because reading in dreams is often a very difficult task). I had to ask the stranger where I was supposed to sign it even though he'd already showed me before the words and lines started moving around.

Then I woke up.
